If your USB to ethernet adapter isn't working now that you've upgraded to macOS Sierra, there are a number of things that we can try in order to get it working again.
The first thing we'll want to do is to reset your Mac's SMC and NVRAM.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Machttps://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063
If the adapter still isn't functioning after both resets check to see if your Mac recognizes the device correctly in System Information. From the Apple Menu select About This Mac, then click the "System Report..." button. Once you have the System Information window open, check the USB category on the left.
OS X: About System Information and System Profilerhttps://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203001
If it doesn't appear in System Information, see the articles linked below.
macOS Sierra: If a USB device isn’t workinghttps://support.apple.com/kb/PH25343
macOS Sierra: Check your device’s USB connectionhttps://support.apple.com/kb/PH25567
However, if you do see the device in System Information, you may need to verify that the network service appears correctly. From the Apple menu choose System Preferences then Network. You should see an entry similar to "Ethernet" on the left. If not, see follow the steps in the article below to add it. Once adding it, test to see if your connection works with Wi-Fi disabled.macOS Sierra: Add a network service
https://support.apple.com/kb/PH25279
If it does appear in Network, please let us know what you see on the right hand side when you select the service, as well as the name of the service as it appears and we can go from there!

Sep 28, 2016 9:52 PM in response to gautamshahby alex7375,My Apple USB adapter is not working also.
I have the 100mb/s White apple USB ethernet adapter. model # A1277
http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MC704LL/A/apple-usb-ethernet-adapter
I never use this apple adapter anyways as I found a better adapter that works Vanilla with OS-X and MS-Windows and Linux.
I use this adapter instead. It just works , plug and play, no need to install additional kexts or drivers.
Just plug it in and it works.

The issue is resolved by disabling "CSRUTIL" and rebooting system.

Sep 29, 2016 3:32 PM in response to gautamshahby vbat,Great! Thank you, Gautamshah, that works!
My Kensington USB3 Ethernet was not working anymore with Sierra, and your "CSRUTIL" advice (disabling the SIP) is working. And my Kensington device still works after I enabled back the SIP.
Thanks! You saved my night.

That (mostly) solved my problem too. I was stumped and really needed my USB-ethernet adapter.
How to disable CSRUTIL is described here for mere mortals: http://osxdaily.com/2015/10/05/disable-rootless-system-integrity-protection-mac- os-x/
Unfortunately for me, my USB adapter (HIRO H50224) did not work when I re-enabled CSRUTIL and rebooted so I had to leave it off. I hope my Mac remains safe until Apple fixes this issue!
thank you
