recording equipment recommendations for music

Can anyone recommend a basic minimal set up for recording music with Garageband? I expect either to be playing piano and singing, or playing guitar and singing. That's simultaneously, so expect to need two mics. I am talking about a baby grand and an acoustic guitar, no midi's or pickups. I already have the Macbook, piano and guitar but assume that I have nothing else. What mics should I get? What other equipment? Remember, I am looking for basic and minimal. Thanks!

Hello EmeraldIbex,

Thanks for your question. I think music creation is one of the coolest things you can do on a Mac! I'll include some products from our website to get you started. Products like the Apogee One will give you the microphone and line in jacks that you need for recording instruments. Microphones like the Shure SM58 will provide you with outstanding quality for your vocals. A visit to your local music store or recording studio will help you decide what's the best microphone and placement techniques for recording your baby grand. Here are a few sections of the GarageBand User Guide that explain how to record vocals, instruments, and multiple tracks on your Mac.

GarageBand User Guide

Before Recording Audio

Record sound from a microphone or an electric instrument

Record to multiple audio tracks

EmeraldIbex, we have a lot of wonderfully creative members here on our GarageBand and Logic Pro X communities who are willing to share their expertise, so I'm sure they will chime in with more suggestions and to answer your specific questions on your musical journey.

Good luck!
