Q: Retrieving file by XML

So I need help trying to recover a file. I accidentally clicked dont save on a lot of work and resulted in me losing a lot of pages of work. I frantically searched for ways to find it back but was left empty handed and even brought a software to help retrieve it but still no results. I did find one method that I think may be a possibility of retrieving this information by going into trash and searching through recovered files, so I got hopeful, however the FILE I WANT TO OPEN SAYS IT IS AN XML AND IT IS CORRUPTED SO WORD CANT OPEN IT. Looking up on youtube there are no ways to do in on mac so I need your help guys.

Currently on a Macbook computed not laptop if that makes sense.

A Macbook that is "not a laptop" doesn't make sense.

You haven't told us what version of Pages, whether you ever saved the file, nor why you are trying to open a Pages file with Word.

Ok so I honestly dont know what my computer is called, but it is not a laptop. I was writing up a word document on Microsoft word for mac verision 15.23.1,

I also never saved the file, I thought this XML file that may potentially be my lost word document may have opened in word but when I tried it said it was corrupted.

I have not been helpful until, you give us enough details to work out exactly what is happening.

    1. What version of Pages are you using?

    2. Did you ever save the file?

    3. Why are you trying to open the file with Word?

If you can answer at least these questions we can start on maybe getting around the problem.

    Sorry our posts crossed.

You can find out what Mac you have by looking under:

Menu > Apple > About this Mac

Also you appear to be asking us a question about Microsoft Word (what version?) in the Pages for Mac forum.

Usually MsWord will ask if you want to reopen the file when you next open Word but I can't swear what happens with your version because I don't know which that is.

Ok sorry and I have asked those questions I beleive.

Sorry for being an amateur not sure how to answer....

    1) What do you mean by verision of pages ?

    2) I never saved the file, not once

    3) I dont know what else to open it with, in this thing I read, it is possible that delete or recovered files may become corrupted or turned into XML and can not be opened up on word again

    Thanks

Pages and Microsoft Word for Mac are two different applications and all Applications are updated or changed over time, so have different versions which behave differently.

On a Mac you always look under the Menu for either the System or Application where there should be an About... option telling you all about thye version etc.

If you are indeed having probllems with Word for Mac, this is the correct forum to ask in:
