Q: MacBook Pro (Retina 13in Mid 14) USB issue with Sierra

All,

I've a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) with Sierra just installed.

All usb devices are not accessible after I try to access them through finder, basically it looks like system unmount them right after I try to access. From that moment on they are no more visible in finder or possible to mount.

In an older Mac pro with Sierra (mid 2010) and on Ubuntu and Microsoft platforms all devices are visible.

I would also like to signal that my iPAD is visible and accessible if connected. So it means that the problem is related to all USB devices not belonging somehow to Apple.

Below I list the several test I did and related results:

1. SMC reset - same result as described above

2. boot in safe mode: USB visible and accessible

2a. Disk Utility mount: it fails, device visible but no mount.

3. here the devices list

update #2: booted in safe mode, USB stick formatted according "Mac OS Extended" is possible to access. Any other USB sticks formatted in a different way, it is not possible to access.

    Any idea ?

    thanks

update #3: I've just discovered that booting in recovery mode and activating Disk Utility it's possible to mount and demount any USB device.

At this point I assume that the issue is related to OSX Sierra.

Appreciated if someone have ideas on how to solve this. I think to have tried all possible alternatives.

    regards

Thank you so much for keeping up with these updates. I can confirm all of this. In recovery mode, I can mount and unmount the drive and it correctly displays the size. While in regular boot up, the drive does not appear normally and appears unmounted and full in disk utility. Sierra most likely is causing this.

I am using a Seagate Slim portable hard drive. Appears normally on windows but does not work on mac.

    thanks Thomas for the reply.

Of course I still have the same problem, I can only add that the unique device that I can connect and disconnect is the iPad. All devices that are not manufactured by Apple don't work (very frustrating for a professional use of Mac as the one I've).

I'm trying to understand something more about the kernel extension files that manage USB located in /System/Library/Extensions (.kext files). Perhaps problem root cause stays there.
