Q: airport express not seen by utility

I have a legacy Airport Express that is not supported in Airport Utility on OS Sierra or in legacy Airport Utility 5.6.1.

Is this just bricked or is there still a way to use this older Express?

The only thing that works for me is restarting my Airport anytime this happens.

Which model of "older" AirPort Express do you have?

Is this a model A1084 or A1088?  If yes, the first thought that comes to mind is that both of these versions are 9+ years old and probably 10+......while the average useful life of this version of the Express was about 3-4 years.

If the AirPort Express is operational, then AirPort Utility 5.6.1 will be able to administer the older Express.  The same would be true if you have the A1264 version of the AirPort Express or the A1392 version as well.

I am at work so cannot check, but yes it is older AXP.

AirPort Utility 5.6.1 won't even open in OS X Sierra. I used to use that to configure it, but now cannot even get the Utility to open.
