Q: My nearest Apple Store never has Genius Bar appointments available

Hi,

I live in Barcelona and the main Apple Store there, the one in Paseo de Gracia, never has available appointments. When you try to book one (either via web or the app), the message you get is "this store has no available appointments, you can try another location or try again tomorrow".

This has been going on for the whole year and a half I've been living here, making impossible access to the Genius bar (other stores are too far to go). When I go to the Store to ask what is going on, they say they're busy or that if I have an urgency, I can try to go very early in the morning, which is not possible due to my working schedules.

So it turns out that if we live in Barcelona, or that store is the only one available for us to go, we don't have access to Genius Bar. Which is one of the main reasons I got a Mac in the first place, because I'd like the idea of having almost immediate face-to-face technical support.

Can anyone tell me why is this happening, and what can we do to get access to Genius Bar support? Talking to the people in the store doesn't do anything and I've tried contacting Apple to complain about this situation but couldn't find a way of contact.

    Hi,

Maybe we can help you here in the communities.

    What's wrong with your Mac?

    Hi Carolyn,

Thank you for your kind help, but it's not so much about a specific problem that I have now (which I have, but I will dig into the communities to find it) as much as being able to access Genius support. I've had some big scares with my Macs in the past and it is not nice to know now that I won't be able to access the Genius Bar for this.

I just want to find out why this is happening, and what can I do to solve it. I seem to get no solution whatsoever from the Store and I couldn't find any other way to notify Apple.

Was the online portal you tried to set up an Apple store Genius appointment,

this?  • Soporte técnico de Apple oficial

    Contacto

These pages vary between country & regional Apple online, so their layout & content

appears to differ as do their pathways to product or services within respective sites.

An Apple Authorized Service Provider (or some authorized resellers with service tech)

can be helpful, in some instance of repair; some can answer questions to some extent.

Likely you are aware of nearest-to-farthest Apple locator for sales, service, & support...

    https://locate.apple.com/es/es/

Sometimes there is a process through the web pages that provide different result.

The click-on to set up Genius, sometimes is circuitous or does not really go there.

If there is any online chat or other contact point, including email to local Apple, that

may be worth trying. If you have an AppleCare extended agreement, try the AppleCare

section of support. If there is a hardware or software issue, these are often covered.

Sorry you've had difficulty and have not been able to discuss the matter locally.

Are there any 'authorized Apple resellers or service providers' who could help,

while they may expect retail compensation for their product expert or tech's time?

Contact - How to Contact Us - Apple: (from here, it shows US + Apple Inc info)

    https://www.apple.com/contact/

While I see a Contact Apple section from the US online site, that has Apple US content

I did not see a similar access to official Apple for Spain from those pages. If my siblings

were nearby, I'd ask them to look into this; as they (two) understand Spanish...

Well, I'm at a loss with ideas at some distance from your location & situation.

    Apple Feedback:

    Support Feedback

    Product Feedback

The distances between service and support location for many products, I do

know about; great distances are like that here, in Alaska. But few roads, and

much less official support. Only one official Apple Store, here. A few AASPs.

    In any event...

    Good luck & happy computing!

    Hi,

Thanks very much for your response!

I've tried from several starting points - eventually, and depending on the issue I was having, it sent me to the "repair point" option. The problem is, that my local Apple Store never has appointments available.

While I know I can choose to go to a reseller (or other options such as chat or phone - although the latter was never very useful and ended up sending me to the Genius service), that's not what I want - I liked the immediacy of the Genius Bar and their ability to solve problems right away, something resellers might not always have.

I've tried to call to support to raise the issue, but they tell me they have nothing to do with the Stores and cannot take note of my complaint.

I guess what I need is some way of contact in which they can explain me why this is happening at my local Apple Store and what can be done to be solved.

You could send comment to the 'support' Apple Feedback link

where you add your information. You may request they get back

to you; but do not expect they will. That is one way to contact.

Problem is, you may not directly know about it.

So outline the exact issue in obtaining support; mention the product

either software or hardware, that may be important to talk to Genius

about... since you are unable to get that service at all, in your location.

They may be able to reply or perhaps IF the 'right person' gets

in contact from the US corporate, local Barcelona Apple store

may be urged to contact you instead. (Though unlikely, it could.)

The Feedback form is something to seriously consider. And put a link

to this discussion in your reply. There may be a limit on topic length.

    Good luck!

Thanks! I will try that. Where can I find that feedback form? I do not have an option for it, since I haven't been able to book the support.

    OK.

This is an Apple Store issue > you need to talk to the Store Manager in person or by phone.

PERHAPS, there may be some "glitch in the system" since YOU are never presented with appointment times. We could TEST this if we merely knew which Apple Store that you wished to visit.

    * I have TESTED making a Genius Reservation Three (3) times in the last 10 minutes...

    1. I was presented with a many available times at the closest Apple Store to me ON the MAP screen in the Store's popUP panel.
    2. Choosing the closest Apple Store on the MAP screen resulted in popUP panel AND ONLY a "progress wheel" in an infinite loop = fail = close TAB
    3. Was NOT presented with a Genius Bar Visit option LINK on the "choice of help" page

After I noticed that I had failed to see your location, I was able to replicate your results.

I am not convinced, based on the 'glitchy behavior' I have experienced in the triage process this morning, that the results can be trusted fully.

Call or visit the Store Manager

Feedback - Apple Store - Apple no longer works as before (it was a "survey" conducted by a 3rd party market research form anyway) - it merely takes one to the LOCATE Store process.

The Apple Support Feedback page that K Shaffer & stevejobsfan0123 posted does not seem "altered" in any way to accommodate "Apple Retail Store" topics to make up for the change made.

Thank you. Indeed, I have also gotten many times the progress wheel. But a few other times I've managed to get it to work, only to find that message: "this store has no available appointments, you can try another location or try again tomorrow". (screenshot attached). And that has happened for at least the last 3 months, and many times over this year and a half.

I've talked to people on the Store many times but they give different answers: a big affluence of visitors, refurbishment... anything consistent and eventually, still we haven't been able to get a Genius Bar appointment in a very long time.

I did fill the Feedback form just out of frustration of having tried any other way to unfruitful results... I am just hoping that by trying every way I have to raise awareness on that issue it will eventually get sorted.

I got the very same message attempting either Barcelona Store - others hundreds of kilometers away show available appointments

At this point, visiting the Store(s) in person and getting an answer from the Store Manager is what I would do.

Since this is more or less an "exercise"...

but it's not so much about a specific problem that I have now (which I have, but I will dig into the communities to find it) as much as being able to access Genius support. I've had some big scares with my Macs in the past and it is not nice to know now that I won't be able to access the Genius Bar for this.

... you might wait until you have a problem that cannot be addressed here (Apple's first choice) or with contacting Apple Support via phone or chat
