Sep 29, 2016 10:19 AM in response to pazzophotoby Tesserax,We went back to Mountain Lion and then to the Airport Utility. It said the Airport address was 0.0.0.0 and that this version of airport utility doesn't support this base station.
The version of the AirPort Utility that supported the older 802.11g AirPort base station ended with OS X Lion. It was version 5.x. The newer 802.11n & 802.11ac base stations are administered with version 6.x ... which does not support the earlier base stations, and why you got the error message.
Typical consumer-grade networking gear lasts between 3-5 years on average. Having yours for 10 years would be an exception. However, as you know technology marches on, and support for earlier devices dwindle to being non-existent.
My guess is that this is where the issue is when using versions of OS X after Lion with the 802.11g base stations.
So, you basically have two choices:
- Administer the older base station with version 5.x of the AirPort Utility.
- Replace your 802.11g Express with the latest (2nd generation) 802.11n model.
