Q: How do I delete 2 photo albums with same name without losing photos?

I did a dumb thing!  When I downloaded my camera's memory chip to my Photos and set up an album, I didn't realize how long it would take to download.  I got impatient and tried 2 more times, so now I have 3 albums with the same name.  How do I delete 2 of these albums without losing the photos on the one I want to keep?

When you imported three times the photos from the same card, did you select to import the new photos or all photos?

If you only imported new photos each time, you will not have duplicates on your Photos Library.

Or do you mean by "Three Albums" that you created three different Photos Libraries?  It is not quite clear, what you mean by "album".

I imported all the photos from my camera's memory chip, and they appeared in Last Import in my Photos.  I then created an Album with all these photos.  Later, when I didn't see it appear under Albums, I repeated the process twice more with the same photos and the same album name.  So now I have 3 Albums in my Photos, all with the same name.  I'd like to delete 2 of these albums, but I'm afraid I'll lose all my photos, since the same photos appear in 3 Albums.

Deleting albums in photos does not delete the photos. The photos will only be deleted if you select the photos in the album and not the album itself.

    Try the following:

    • Reveal the sidebar in Photos  by entering the key combination option-command- S. ⌥⌘S. this way you can easily drag between albums.
    • Click the first album in the sidebar, and select all photos in the first album, drag these photos to the third album. Now select  all photos in the second album, drag these photos to the third album. Your third album will now have all photos from all tree albums.
    • Now select the first album in the sidebar and ctrl-click it or right-click it. In the contextual menu that will pop up, select "Delete Album".  This will only delete the album, but not the photos in the album.
    • Do the same for the second album.
