How do I copy and paste between Mac and iPhone w/ Sierra

Hi all..

Trying to figure out how to copy and paste between my Mac and my iPhone? I thought I remember reading/seeing with MacOS X Sierra we would be able to copy/paste between devices?

Is this true? if so, how does one go about doing it? (for instance I was trying to copy something from the Messages app and paste it into my iPhone but no luck)

Thanks!

I'm running MacOS Sierra and iOS 10.02. I keep getting a message on my Mac saying the "hand off failed". I'm not sure what this means. Maybe I need to mess with the bluetooth options more. I have it in a lightening dock on my desk and it functions with iTunes fine but if I copy something say from "messages" on my mac and try to do a paste in imessages on my 6 Plus it just pastes the last "copy" I did on the phone not the latest paste from my mac.

Am I missing a step? Thanks!

Is this true? It's the "copy/paste" functionality doesn't work very well and is at best "buggy"? This was one of the features of MacOS Sierra I was really looking forward to... I wonder what other supposed upgrades don't work? I know I've been having a difficult time (sometimes) with text messaging too... especially to people who aren't using an iPhone (ie. an Android device).

Messages is an app I never really used before but recently started using it quite a bit. With my phone plugged in the lightening dock it makes texting (especially long msgs) very convenient.

Dags!

Hi Guys,

I am also experiencing this issue.

Devices:

1) iPhone 6s: iOS 10.1.1

2) MacBook Pro Retina (2015): macOS Sierra 10.12.1

Steps tried:

1) Restarting both devices

2) Signing out of iCloud accounts on both devices and then signed back in

3) Bluetooth enabled on both devices and they are also connected to the same wifi access point

4) Devices are in close proximity (less than a metre apart)

Anything else I can try next?

Really was looking forward to this feature 😟

Thanks

Hi Go7hic! I managed to get it working between my devices (27” iMac OS 10.12.1, iPhone SE iOS 10.1.1) by doing everything suggested in all these posts, but would emphasise that you have to have “Hand Off” switched on on your desktop Mac!! It´s under System Preferences / General. It then works nearly all the time 😁, but be patient and wait a few seconds for what you´ve pasted onto the target device to appear! Its not immediate like copy & paste on a desktop Mac... Hope this helps!! Cheers, Ian

Hi harrycdb! This might sound silly, but have you tried re-booting your Mac and doing a hard re-set on your iPhone? It´s what I did, and it certainly can´t hurt to do so! If you've done everything else (and “Hand Off” is switched on on your desktop Mac!) then I really don´t know what else you could do 😟 Hope somebody else comes up with a solution for you! Ian
