Q: Star rating

Dear Apple,

Don't remove the ability to give 1-5/5 star ratings to my music in the next iOs update (I just went to iOs10).  Honestly, I can't even believe this is no longer available (except through Siri) anymore.  For more than 10 years you have led us to believe by rating our music on a 5 point system we could sort and find our music, give it meaning, and quickly get an idea of how we feel/felt about a song.  I know you're trying to push us into a Pandora/Spotify-like experience and get us to subscribe to music, so you want to limit us to we "love" or "dislike" our music.  However, sometimes we "kinda like our music and want to listen to it sometimes, but not all the time because I don't dislike it, it doesn't suck, it just doesn't rock" (that's a 3 star, BTW).  A rating scale helps those of us who more than "love or dislike" songs be discriminating.  Also, btw, you strung us along over those 10+ years thinking it actually mattered to do so.  I'm not super thankful that all my hard work is suddenly defunct.

If you would like me to ditch my music and subscribe to Spotify, so be it.  I can do that.  I can love or dislike there.

Sincerely,

Paul

Apple, bring back the 5 star rating in iOS10. Since day 1 of using iTunes I have organized my music collection with this tool. Don't throw away my work. Thanks.

    Completely agree.

I have 6,000 songs, all rated from zero to five stars, with smart lists based on the rating. Suddenly I'm limited to like or dislike..   But I like all of them! Thats why I bought them from the iTunes store! I just like some more than others, and enjoy changing ratings on the fly so that my lists reflect my current tastes.

There have been posts saying you can move things to playlists named 0 star, 1 star, 2 star etc, and then do the admin back on your mac, but that assumes that you have room on your phone for all your playlists!  One of the reasons to make a playlist is because you can't have ALL your songs on your phone, so putting all your playlists is just not a fix.

Why do we need a fix anyway - please just bring back the star rating!

You guys need to direct your comments to Apple's Feedback page. This is an Apple user forum.

Cheers and good luck with your plight.

I've posted my comments on the Feedback page, but there is no indication that the Star Rating system will be reinstated, so this is the place to discuss potential fixes!

If you have any suggestions please feel free to discuss!

Add me.  Completely agree.  Put the 5 star rating back in Apple Music app in 10.x.x's very NEXT UPDATE!

And I have to believe Apple has interns (at a minimum) reading their OWN posting board.

There is a 99 cent app with good ratings "Music Rating Widget" by dendrocom. I have not tried it.

    Also

In Product Feedback "apple-music" should be the music rental service, however it appears to be the best feedback category for the "music on iOS" App. The drop down boxes cover "library", "radio", and other appropriate subjects.

I Saw a blog where the guy had many thousands of songs and had switched to android just because of an app that allowed rating by "swipes". I'm about to down grade to 9.3.5, mostly because I need the Stars but also to reduce the wear and tear on the "home' button. If the (mechanical) switch breaks it is a BIG problem.
