Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you're not able to use the Messages app correctly after your recent update to iOS 10.0.2. This is definitely an essential app to have working. I'd like to help out.
Since you've identified this behavior with the Messages app specifically, try the steps here to force the app to close:Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Once you're done, try opening up the Messages app to check if there are still any problems. If the issue persists, I'd recommend that you restart your device as a next step using the instructions found here:
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If you still notice an issue after restarting, I'd suggest that you reinstall iOS. Before the reinstall, it's recommended that you back up your data. Take a look at this article that goes over this process:
How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Once your backup is complete, follow the steps from this article in the section titled "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up":
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on - Apple Support
I realize that the title of this article doesn't match your issue, but these steps will allow you to reinstall iOS 10.0.2 on your device.
All the best!
