Q: Mail not responding properly

I just migrated from 10.8 to 10.11 (El Capitan) and Mail is unable to log on to my accounts. It was working properly just before the migration but not afterwards. I am on Time Warner Cable with RoadRunner as an ISP.

The primary reason for moving to El Capitan was the new TLS definitions which are now needed for most websites.

I remember have a problem the first time I went to El Capitan but since it bombed on several of my "moved" documents, I did not know about the Migrate From capability, and was forced back to 10.8 but do not remember what the problem was. I am reasonably use it is a TLS issue but do not know what to do to fix it.

The other problem is that the email address of use and backup are the ones not logging on properly.

Since I am on MDT (Mountain Daylight time +6) and it is late will probably not be back on to check her until about 1500gmt.

    Who is your email provider?

Maybe you didn't set the Incoming and outgoing message servers correctly?

As i said in the beginning, my provider was ROADRUNNER. It was attached to Time WARNER, which has just been taken over by SPECTRUM.

The last time I called them, they intimated that the problem was with APPLE and that there was no problems on their end. This time, I am going to APPLE first before calling them.

I just worked with the email provider and all settings are correct but still no connection. This is a POP account and we double checked the inbound and outbound port settings as well along with use of SSL, yes.

We also checked through WEBMAIL and that comes up with no problem showing that the ID and password are correct.

    Just a further thought:

when I initialized El Capitan following installation, I used migration assistant and migrated everything from Mountain Lion to El Capitan including applications. Just wonder if this may have caused a problem with AppleMail, i.e. brought in the app from Mountain Lion which is not optimized for the new TLS definitions.

Reason for this is that I noticed iWorks apps seem to have been migrated (showing 09 for Pages and Numbers) whereas on my first attempt I did not do a migrate but brought those documents (Pages and Numbers) over by using drag/drop procedures between disk drive locations. i.e. open User > Desktop on both drives and drag/drop documents between them. Using this method of "migration" I noted several document problems which was the original reason for dropping El Capitan. p.s. I was extremely outdated in the capabilities of Migration Assistant, unaware of its capability to migrate from an independant drive, rather than from a computer using direct cable (Firewire) connections.

I use my desktop as my temporary file cabinet and Documents as my Archive file cabinet.

What I am wondering here is whether there are "updated" apps installed with El Captitan and whether they can be overwritten by Migration Assistant especially if those Apps have been renamed. i.e. Pages09, Numbers09.

Alternatively, would the settings that are migrated to El Capitan have anything to do with causing problems AFTER the TLS (SSL?) upgrade settings are performed?

    Tks

Guess noone has an Idea of what the problem may be.

Just got off the phone, again, with TimeWarnerCable/RoatRunner (Spectrum) and after full rebuild of both email addresses still a no go, unable to connect with mail server.

How would I go about reinstalling Apple Mail?

    Tks
