Q: iPhone 7 screen creaking issue

Hello,

Is anyone else was having this same issue? I have a 7 plus in jet black 128 GB AT&T and whenever I try to use 3D touch (I owned an iPhone 6s for a year so I'm very familiar with 3D touch) or put the phone under any amount of flex (from lifting it up or just holding it with two hands) the phone makes a slight creaking sound that sounds like something is loose (not a bending sound). The smallest amount of flex from everyday use causes the iPhone to make a sound which is quite audible.  Pressing one finger on the top of the iPhone and another finger on the bottom of the iPhone at the same time produces the loudest sound.

Thanks

    Hi there, avnyc11!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you have an issue with your iPhone 7 having a strange sound. I know how important it is to be sure the iPhone doesn't have any issues with it. It sounds like this might be an issue with the phone itself so you might want to go to this link to get in touch with Apple directly: Contact Apple Support

    Cheers!

Thank you AppleJen77!  I am also having an issue with my GPS being inconsistent, often not being able to locate me, as well as a hissing sound emanating from the Apple logo on the back of my iPhone when under heavy load, so I think I will take it into an Apple store when I have my day off next week.

I have exactly the same issue with creaking 7 plus. I've been at Apple Store and they said it's completely normal. What I don't understand is how can it be normal for a $1k product to have that poor assembly. The guy told me some ******** about adhesive but hey, doesn't other iPhones have adhesive? Doesn't iPads with much bigger screens have adhesive too? I still have time to return this iPhone but I want to try another Apple Store to replace it first.

Just wondering how common this issue?

I read reports that the issue is due to loose screws. Try taking it into the Apple store and have them. I waiting to have a day off and take it in, then I'll report back

That seems to have done the trick. I hear a slight crack now but nowhere as bad as before; only if the phone flexes around the diagonal. I would recommend getting the screws properly tightened

If the device is at fault apple will replace it while it's in warranty however any recommendations from "someone on the internet" that provided you with suggestions to bend, twist, freeze, insert, etc should be dismissed as these actions can damage your phone and Apple can void your warranty and refuse to repair the device.

If you are having an issue contact Apple and arrange an appointment with an authorized Apple service center.

It seems to be a global issue with 7 plus version, I had the same issue with my new iPhone and I replaced it but the same I found with replaced one.

I'm using iPhones five years ago and never faced such kind of manufacturing defect.

I hope apple come up with solution for the same else I will be returning it and get my money back.

    I Have the same problem

jetblack 256 plus here,I live in Greece And the moment I realized that my 6 days old,1200€ iphone is creaking,I went straight to infoquest (our apple authorized service provider, since we lack an Apple Store here in Greece),and they informed me that seems ok to them, that my 1200€ phone is creaking!!!

they also said that apple hasn't recognized it as a problem and it's still to soon to call it problem.

so i am stack with a faulty device now!

p.s please take a note that i have visited various electronic stores that have the iPhone 7 plus on display and NONE of this phones made any creaking sound! And I can assure you that I REALLY stressed them!

Tightening the screws actual solved the problem. Occasionally I hear a creak but I think it's because the screws are loosening ever so slightly. My guess is this is due to the adhesive around the screen for the waterproofing making the noise, and tightening the screws presses the adhesive and firmly into place so they can't creak anymore.

I have a matte black 256GB 7+ and I tried to recreate it with no luck.  As the "Specialist" stated, it could be a defect.  I'm having an issue with the screen I believe.

Mine only occurs on the bottom of the device by the screws. My theory is that the washer behind the screws to make the device waterproof causes the screws to not be 100% tight, and combined with the screen adhesive creates the creak. Hopefully Apple can fix this and then I can take my phone in

I had the exact same problem with my 7 Plus matt black. Apple has replaced it two times by now and all three iPhones had this creaking issue. In the end i returned it.
