The symptoms are typical of a dead board in Gen4.
There is a method to fix that one. Mentioned in the ifixit article listed.. ie bake the board in an oven.
But confirm the version first. It is only that model that is going to be fixed by this method.

I'm aware of the power supply thermal design issue, but thought it might be worth asking. The HD continues to turn - continuously, so its power supply looks to be ok.
