Q: App Store "sign in to iTunes Store to Download" keeps popping up

I updated to Sierra on my macbook pro computer today, and was going to go through and update some programs/apps. I click Update All (or just Update on an individual one) and I have to sign in to iTunes to download. So I sign in, the circle spins on the left hand side, and then it keeps making me sign in to iTunes to download. I have not been able to get past this stage.

I have already:

- Restarted my computer

- Signed in and out of the App Store

- Reset my Apple password

Can someone please help?

    Hi lakael,

Thanks for your question.  It sounds like you are unable to access the Mac App Store to update some apps since you installed Sierra.  Your initial steps to restart your computer and sign in and out of the Mac App Store are good ones.

In addition to those steps, I would suggest "power cycling" your modem/router as well.  This will reinitialize your connection to Apple's servers on the internet.   To do this:

    1) Shut down your computer
    2) If you have a combination router/modem, unplug the power cord on the device.
If you have two devices, unplug the router first (it is the device with an antenna), then unplug
        the modem.
    3) Wait a minute or two, then plug the modem in first, then the router.   Wait for all of the status
lights to indicate the device(s) are connected to the internet.
    4) Start your MacBook Pro

Initially, try connecting to the main Apple website.
Then, open iTunes.  Click on iTunes > About iTunes.  What version do you see scrolling up on the screen?  Open the iTunes Store from within the iTunes application.  Are you able to browse content?

If yes, click on the App Store icon on your Dock.  The application should open to the Featured content.  Click on one of the applications in the Featured section.  Are you able to browse in the Mac App Store?

On the menu bar at the top of your screen, beside App Store, choose Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads.  Enter your Apple ID if prompted.   Do you see the message "All purchases have been downloaded for this account"?  If so, click OK.   If not, please reply to this post with additional information.  Which application did not download completely?  What error messages, if any, are you seeing?

Click the Updates category at the top of the page in the Mac App Store.  Rather than clicking Update All, click the Update button on one application initially.  Are you able to update it successfully?  If so, update the other applications one at a time.

If there are any applications that are not compatible with macOS Sierra, you will find an Incompatible Software folder on your Macintosh HD drive in Finder.

lakael, you mentioned in your post that you have reset your Apple password.  If that is the case, you will need to update the password in several places.  The resource below explains how:

What to do after you change your Apple ID email address or password

Please reply to this thread if your issue persists after trying all of these steps, and we'll investigate further for you.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
