Q: Can't save my iBook changes in iBooks Author 2.5. Every time I save or close the program it crashes and no changes are saved. What can I do?

Hi everybody!

Im having a problem: can't save my iBook changes in iBooks Author 2.5. Every time I save or close the program it crashes and no changes are saved.

I'm using a mid 2012 MacBook Pro Retina with macOs Sierra 10.12 and iBooks Author v.2.5. It was working fine until I upgraded my system and iBooks Author.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for your attention.

    Greetings tgpooley,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like you are trying to edit a book in iBooks Author and when you try to save the changes the app crashes without saving the changes.
Since you just updated macOS and the app we should test if this is a profile issue or a system wide issue.  I would recommend you read these articles, they may be able to help troubleshoot the issue.

If you start the computer in safe mode it will disable other software that may be interfering and causing it to close. Make some changes and try to save them to see if it has the same issue.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

If it still has trouble we can create a new test user which has no other software installed and see if the issue persists.

If iBooks Author still crashes in a new user it is a system wide issue and we can uninstall the app and reinstall it.

    Take care.

    Hi Chris,

I have followed the steps you proposed on your post and I keep having the same problem. I have tried in safe mode, I created a new test user and, finally, I uninstalled iBooks Author and reinstalled it, as the problem persisted. After all, iBooks Author crashes again and again. Sometimes, when I do a small change (just a few letters), I am able to save. But if I make more extensive changes it crashes.

Is there anything else I can do to solve this problem?

    Thanks!

    Hi Mario,

I think I found out where the problem came from, after trying a few things. I was dragging and dropping vector graphics into iBooks Author, as they where accepted by the program. I replaced all the vector graphics for .png format and everything seems to work fine again.

Thanks Chris and Mario for taking your time helping me!

    Take care.
