Apple Watch 2 not receiving text message notifications?

I just paired a new Apple Watch Series 2 with my iPhone 6+. Updated to iOS 10.0.2 prior to that. I am not receiving notifications of text messages, and the new messages do not appear on the watch. "Do not disturb" is off. Combed through all the settings on the phone and in Watch app and everything looks good. Restarted my phone and the watch, but still nothing. Other apps are working.

I'm having the same issue. My watch was off my wrist to charge. I did a lot of texting on my phone. Put the watch back on and have not received any texts to the watch since. It's not updating with any of the messages sent/received since it was off my wrist. It also won't send messages. It's basically frozen/stuck and I can't get seem to bring it current to all the messages on my phone. No idea what to do as I have already turned it off and back on. It's not even showing contact names on the text messages. It's like it's backed up.

I have the same problem and for me from what I understand every time you take your watch off it locks. And when it locks your watch thinks you're not using it therefore no notifications will go through it. I even have this problem when I wear my watch loosely around my wrist if it's moving around and the sensors are not firm on your skin around your wrist it might think for a second it's off your wrist and lock. So basically for me every time I see a little lock symbol on the top of my watch The notifications don't come through, but when the lock symbal is gone then they come through. Now if your watch is snug around your wrist and you already unlocked your watch and the lock symbol won't go away put your watch in airplane mode for a few seconds, then take off airplane mode , then see if the lock symbol goes away and your notifications come through. By the way if you have nobody to help you by texting you to see if the notifications come through download the app called TextNow. It's a texting app that you could text yourself to see if the notifications will go through. But remember if your phone is on Your watch notifications won't go through ,so when you text yourself make sure as soon as you press send close the screen on your phone.

Hi

How notifications behave depends on the status of your devices and your settings. With Wrist Detection enabled, in order to bring notifications to your attention as soon as possible:

  • If your iPhone is unlocked, you will receive notifications on your iPhone instead of on your watch.
  • If your iPhone is locked or asleep and your watch is unlocked (regardless of whether the watch screen is asleep or awake) and on your wrist, you will receive notifications on your watch.
  • If your watch is locked or has Do Not Disturb enabled, notifications will go to your iPhone.
