Q: digitalising vhs tapes

A couple of options you might consider:

1) Try using QuickTime;

2) If you have digital tape cam, first dub the VHS to MiniDV and then import the MiniDV tape.

I've done a fair amount of VHS digitizing using the ADVC110 with very few problems.

Pretty sure that AlChroma, who contributes here often, has a 300. Maybe he can help you.

Can you provide details of your Mac, OS, and the configuration of gear please?

Can you double check the cabling, sockets and ADVC setup??

Right now I can't offer any suggestions.

When time permits I'll run a test with my 300 using a similar setup to yours.

Can you access Quicktime Pro 7?

It would be a better option than QT X.

I ran some test captures and they are fine.

My setup: Hi-8 cam analogue out > ADVC 300 analogue in > ADVC 300 firewire out >

firewire cable to Firewire 800/thunderbolt adapter > Mac.

Can't understand why your setup does not work.

Try shutting everything off.

Connect all the gear, switched on, then restart your Mac.
