Q: osx 10.11.6 el capitan

I got a new hp printer and tried to use the install cd.It only goes to yosemite 10.11 and will not install the cd with the utilities.I tried the things that was said to do but it still came back to non support for el capitan.I started looking at several of the hp deskjet computers and none seem compatable with elcapitan 10.11.6.They only go up to 10.11.Does anyone know how to get the printers drivers and to be able to use the utilities and the copy and scan features..thank you.I looked at a couple of other brands and it seems to be the same.

Can you post the exact printer model please.

Uusually, you do not need the install CD; with the printer connected (via USB cable I assume?), have you tried going to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > click the + sign below the left column; that should search and (hopefully) find the printer. At that point, you should see a dialog that it is downloading/installing the driver(s).

The printer is an hp deskjet 2132. When i do what you said it gives me a generic driver 2.1 and its for a generic pcl lazer printer. It does not come with any utilities and the scan and copy functions are not there.I went to the hp site and went through there options and it either said go to apple and get driver or it came back to the cd set up which is only compatible up to 10.11 yosemite.

Have you checked this page on their site:

    http://support.hp.com/hk-en/product/HP-DeskJet-2130-All-in-One-Printer-series/71 74550/model/7529634/document/c04788799/

And, 10.11 does not mean "up to"; since 10.11 is the main El Capitan version (the .6 at the end is the latest security update), the drivers may be compatible - check with HP. FWIW, Yosemite is 10.10.x and El Capitan is 10.11.x.
