Reset your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

Sep 30, 2016 3:01 AM in response to Fiokimonby OriginalName022,★HelpfulIf you are talking about a force restart, which is usually what people mean by hard reset, it's probably not harmful if you just did it once and didn't notice any changes afterwards. If you force restart on a regular basis, that can cause major problems over time since you would regularly be forcing running processes on your phone to instantly quit, so it is not recommended. Force restarting can cause corruptions if any read/write processes are stopped. Modern systems are generally able to recover from minor corruptions without the user ever knowing that a corruption has occurred, so you shouldn't need to worry if you don't notice any changes to how your phone is operating. If you do notice that your phone is acting strange, a restore should take care of it.

Sep 30, 2016 3:05 AM in response to OriginalName022by Fiokimon,Thank you !! I probably mean force start , I did notice a drainage in my battery (I only have the phone 3 months now ) but it can always be just my idea ! Do you think an update to 10.2 iOS is the equivalent of a restore

Sep 30, 2016 8:14 AM in response to Fiokimonby OriginalName022,Updating would not be an equivalent of a restore, but updating is one of the ways that it could recover itself from a possible corruption, depending on what may have happened. If you haven't tried restarting your phone by properly turning it off and back on again, that would be the first step. If that doesn't help and the problem becomes worse after updating, then I would recommend a restore.
