see if your system meets or exceeds the recommendations of apple and always backup before a major OS upgrade in the event one or more 3rd party software or hardware items are incompatible. Always check with the manufacturer of these products as it is not Apples responsibility to make their software work for other developers

Sep 29, 2016 3:12 PM in response to chuckairosby Allan Jones,What Mac do you have? The pre-2006 desktop Macs that this forum covers cannot run OS 10.6.8 or later, so you must have a newer model.
This link is suppose to update you to El Capitan is supposed to let you upgrade from Snow Leopard to El Capitan for subsequnet upgrade to Sierra (if supported by your hardware):

If you're having trouble figuring out which Mac you have, check out everymac.com. You're sure to find your model there.
Also, you can check out your system information by clicking on the Apple icon in the top left of your display and choosing "About This Mac" from the drop-down menu. It will tell you the specs of your Mac.
