Q: Logic Pro 9 keeps crashing when I try to save in macOS Sierra.

Never had this problem before, but since I updated to macOS Sierra, Logic Pro 9 keeps crashing every time I attempt to save a new project. At first I thought it was a problem with my iMac (Mid or Late 2012), but it's also happening in my MacBook Pro (Late 2011).

How am I even supposed to work if I cannot save any progress?

Is anybody else experiencing this issue? Do you know how to solve it? Please, help, this is an urgency…

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12), 2.7 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5

Everyone running Logic 9 is having this under Sierra.

Logic 9 hasn't been supported by Apple for years and it was only 'luck' that it worked after 10.9.x.

Your ONLY solution right now is to roll back the OS using your backup. I wouldn't expect Logic 9 to run under Sierra ever. I'm surprised it worked up until now.

Or, as I guess, buying Logic Pro X since I don't have an OS X El Capitan backup…right?

Well, Logic X isn't without it's issues with Sierra. Let alone all the 3rd party plug-ins and audio device drivers that are not yet compatible.

I know this sounds all a bit doom and gloom but it's always the same when a new OS comes out. Get a drive to do a full backup, you'll thank yourself a million times over.

I know it might have its problems, but I don’t know what issue can be more critical that not being able to save or bounce, or nothing at all. Right now I have no way back into any previous OS, so I would be grateful to know if I can at least save or bounce in Logic Pro X. If not, I am doomed…

Does anyone know if there will be a solution to this ever? Mine worked until mavericks so i will be taking time to delete my drive and reinstall everything needed simply because I use this for work and have a personal hate for logic 9 haha.

you can save all your files in a external drive then reinstall from sierra in recovery to lion or the earliest OS, install logic 9 and all needed plug ins then update to el captain. I had some problems there but not many that will be the latest OS you can go into with 9 until further notice.

Apple has dropped Logic 9, nothing has been done with it for years, nothing will ever be done with it.  No, there never will be a solution, it is a dead app, period.  Get Logic Pro X, learn it, it's fantastic.

New OS upgrades, any platform, require (especially professionals) you wait until your apps and plugins have been updated for that OS version.  Do NOT ever upgrade your OS until that happens.  Apple will have updates soon, as they always have shortly after an upgrade.  Couple for few weeks, it'll be fine.

LPX on EC was very stable and pleasant.

    Wise words BenB

Though I am not sure this is the case regarding the latest version of Logic and the latest OS, I am sure this will work flawlessly , as Logic is Apples own product.

Though, interfaces and other software, plug ins etc, thats a different story, you do need to check all the manufactures sites for compatibility.

So, I'm just getting Logic Pro X.

Do I need to uninstall LP9?

Well put it this way i found out the hard way!

I upgraded to Sierra from El Capitan when i started Logic Pro 9 & went to the pull down menu to open & navigate to a Logic Pro 9 project it just kept crashing the only way i could open a project was to actually double click on the project file itself but then i could not save my project again crashing, so i decided to try to figure out the problem thinking maybe i need a clean install of Sierra.

So i did a clean install on another hard drive to test, my aim is just to get Logic Pro 9 installed nothing else keeping it all clean as possible i did not even sign in during install the cleaner the better, then Logic Pro 9 worked like normal & the most amazing thing is its running like it did in Snow Leopard no more graphics glitches when scrolling through EQ plugin the GUI/Graphics feels powerful, fast & solid again i am loving Sierra now.

I then signed into iCloud & started Logic Pro 9 the crash came back again exactly the same crash so i signed out then Logic Pro 9 worked like normal again, i then stayed signed & just disabled iCloud drive Logic Pro 9 still works like normal so i went back to my main Sierra from El Capitan hard drive disabled iCloud drive now i have Logic Pro 9 working & back to normal.

Also I recommend using Logic Pro 9.1.7 not Pro 9.1.8

Would be nice if Apple fixes this bug!

Great fix!  It was mentioned that Sierra would restore some of Logic's Mojo!
