Q: Nano 7th does not display music

I have a NANO 7th Gen. Model MD477LL -There is music on the NAN that I can not play from the NANO  " Music " applet. When I touch the Music Applet, I get the page where the music Library is and a note that says " No Music You Can Sync Music From Itunes "

If I plug the Nano into my computer and go to M y PC, Devices and Drives, I can see the Music in the Music folder. From there I can double click on any song and it will play on my computer. If I copy all of the Music files off of the Nano into a folder on my computer, I can play any song on my computer.

I have done a reset, that made no difference. I then Removed all of the files off of the Nano and did a Factory restore and then replaced the removed files and still nothing has changed.

In the Settings, General, About, it indicates that the Capacity is 14.7 GB and Available is 449 MB.

The only thing I use the NANO for is Music there is nothing else on it.

You may not be familiar with how to set up automatic syncing on an iPod.  The default setting (including after doing a Restore in iTunes) is to use the Manually manage music and videos setting.  Therefore, it does not automatically sync anything.

First, if you used your computer's file manager to manually copy files to and from iPod (outside of iTunes), don't do that.  Remove those files.  You may want to do another Restore, just in case something got messed up.

Connect your iPod, and select iPod in iTunes by clicking its device button.  The screenshot below shows upper-left corner of my iTunes window, with iPod's device button circled in red.

    iPod device button general.png

Click that button to show iPod's Summary settings screen in iTunes window.  Along the left side, in the sidebar, under Settings, click Music.  To the right, iPod's Music settings screen appears.  Checkmark the box for Sync Music.

NOTE:  For anyone else reading this, any songs on iPod that are not in your iTunes library will be lost.

This turns ON automatic syncing.  You can choose to sync Entire music library (if it fits on iPod) or a Selected portion.  Set up this screen as desired, and click Apply to sync songs to iPod.  Going forward, iTunes automatically keeps iPod "in sync" with changes to your music library (or selected portion of it) whenever you connect iPod (or click Sync if already connected).

Additional note:  After re-reading what you wrote, it's possible your song files are not in your iTunes library yet.

First, download and install iTunes, if you have not already, from here

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/

Run iTunes.  To add your song files to your iTunes library, from the iTunes menu bar

    File -> Add to Library...

Point to the folder with your song files.  Select the folder, not individual song files.  iTunes adds all compatible media files if finds in that folder to your iTunes library.

    Go to my previous post.

Thank you Kenichi, that was very helpful. It worked great. I replaced all of the music and still have 4 gig of room left.

The fact of the matter is that the IPod belongs to a friend and she screwed it up but I didn't want to go into all of that. She must have managed to corrupt the music memory somehow.
