Apple Activity Monitor on Apple Watch: Mapping

I like to use my Apple Watch 1 -- with all updated software -- when I go on an outdoor cycle ride, run or long walk. After the recent software update, a great new feature suddenly appeared: I could come home, look at my iPhone 6, and check the activity monitor app and see a map of where I had just exercised. Just like the mapping feature on Runkeeper and other athletic apps. At long last this feature had come to the Apple Watch. In fact, I was surprised this feature worked on Apple Watch 1 as I had thought you needed the Watch 2 for it to work.

Now the bad news: For some reason this feature has now STOPPED working on my Apple Watch 1. Featured crapped out 4-5 days ago. Where did it go? Everything else is working fine but this great feature has now disappeared. When I complete a run or bike ride all the other data is there: but no map of where I just exercised. Doesn't matter if I had taken my phone with or without me. Post-exercise mapping history has disappeared...

Please help.

Then Apple is wrong too...

"For GPS accuracy when you walk, run, or cycle outdoors, select the appropriate workout and bring your iPhone.2 For indoor and outdoor walking and running, this will also help calibrate the accelerometer in Apple Watch for times when you don’t have GPS. Apple Watch Series 2 has built-in GPS, which allows you to get accurate information during an outdoor workout without your paired iPhone.'
