Q: Bringing up ‘Musical Typing’ toggles Mute on the selected track

Here’s what happens:

CMD-K brings up the ‘Musical Typing’ window, but also Mutes the track.

CMD-K again closes the Musical typing, and leaves the track muted.

CMD-K again brings up Musical Typing, but now toggles off the Mute for the track.

I don’t recall musical typing having anything to do with Mute before so maybe I accidentally changed a configuration/preference but I can’t see anything that would cause this.

This happens for all my Logic projects now, not just a specific project file.

I'm using Logic Pro X 10.2.4

Thanks in advance for any advice on why this might be happening.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Try - Logic Pro->control surfaces->bypass control surfaces and see if that fixes it.

Also make sure Cmd-K is only assigned to one key command.

make sure the key command description window is in focus and press CMD K to go the first occurrence of it's use, hit it again to continue to the 2nd ( if there is one on a mute command, delete it)

Yes, if I do this the problem goes away - musical typing works with no muting occurring. However, upon opening another project or re-opening Logic the problem comes back.  So, I'd have to do this each time I open Logic or a new project file...but it DOES stop the problem of toggling mute - maybe that's a clue as to what's wrong though?

(I don't have any MIDI/control surfaces or even interface whatsoever connected to my macbook pro so I don't even understand why this helps, but it does clear up the problem for that session at least.)

OK, I checked this and Cmd-K appears to only be assigned to musical typing - I'd already thought of this but your instructions helped me to know where to look to verify I don't have another key assignment.

    Thank you for your response!

Edit to my last reply: As long as 'bypass control surfaces' remains checked and Logic is open, I can close and open projects and the problem doesn't happen. But closing Logic and re-opening it requires this to be checked again or the problem (toggling mute on/off when toggling musical typing) occurs.

Sounds like Cmd k is being picked up by the control surfaces -

Open control surfaces (expert view ) look for cmd k and delete that entry.

OK, Under Control Surfaces/Controller Assignments (with ‘expert mode’ turned on)

I didn’t see anything that specifically said cmd-k. However, in the 3rd column of the ’Controller Assignments’ window the column is titled:

    ‘Control’ ‘Parameter’

There was an entry with values:

    ‘Learned’ ‘Mute’

I went ahead and deleted this entry. Now everything works fine.

I’m not an expert so I’m a bit leery about what this did but it fixed the problem.

Maybe I typed something wrong at some point in the past few days which invoked the learn mode somehow to assign the cmd-k key command to be ‘learned’ as mute?

Thank you again for getting me to the right place to solve my problem!
