charging a phone after battery was dead for days

today I had a problem with my new SE phone which made me leave it at Apple store for revision. Now I'm charging an old iPhone 5 that has been dead for a good month (no usage, kept in a draw). My question is, how long does it take for the phone's battery to charge back up? hours?

iPhone 5, iOS 8.3

It should take about 3 hours for a full charge using the USB wall adapter. If it was charged to at least 50%, then turned off before storing it the phone should recover. However, if it was left powered on and near discharged permanent damage may have been done to the battery.

If you charge it for 30 minutes and then hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time the phone should reboot, unless the battery has failed completely.
