Sep 30, 2016 1:18 AM in response to Daffodildoby Eriksimon,★HelpfulMake sure you have some audio selected. Those functions only work on selected audio.
If that doesn't make a difference, the audio file may be protected, or the track may be locked. If it is copy protection, you can't change that, you'll have rerecord the file (route the track to a second track, then record enable that second track, then record andf then use the recorded file instead of the original).

Sep 30, 2016 1:18 AM in response to Eriksimonby Daffodildo,Thank you Eriksimon. I do have the audio file selected and this is why I can't understand that the options are not available. I have recorded many audio files and this only happens some of the time and, for the life of me, I don't know what I'm doing differently.
You are quite correct about re-recording - I can bounce the files in place which automatically normalises them but I still want to understand in what way they are protected or why?
Thanks again.

Sep 30, 2016 4:15 AM in response to Daffodildoby Indyuser,You could also try....
highlight the track
hit cmd b to bounce in place
then see if all your menu items show up

What is likely happening is that the audio file is not a WAV, AIF, or CAF. It is likely an Mp3 or other format.
If you open up the project browser and look at the file type - see if it is an mp3 - if it is, these functions will not work and will be greyed out. The bounce in place will convert the file to whatever you have logics default set to (wav, aiff or caf).
Then it should work.

Sep 30, 2016 6:05 AM in response to Indyuserby Daffodildo,Thanks Indyuser. BIP does work but I am still curious as to why I can't normalise as is. It is a .AIF so I am flummoxed.

Sep 30, 2016 8:32 AM in response to Daffodildoby Edgar,One reason for the Functions commands to be grayed out is that you don't have permission to those files on the Finder level.
Here is a recent post that shows how to fix that file permission:
Hope that helps

Oct 1, 2016 10:18 AM in response to Daffodildoby Data Stream Studio,HHave you enabled advanced features in logic preferences?
-
Oct 1, 2016 10:23 AM in response to Data Stream Studioby Daffodildo,Yes. I hadn't enabled all of them but the ones that weren't enabled e.g. Score, couldn't have been the problem...
Thanks.

Oct 1, 2016 10:23 AM in response to Data Stream Studioby Edgar,Good point, because this seems to be the cure for 90% of "I can't do this" kind of question. But in this case it doesn't apply, because the Audio File Editor won't be available at all if Advanced Tools are disabled.

Oct 1, 2016 11:00 AM in response to Daffodildoby Indyuser,I Just noticed up in my post above - it is a video (not a picture) you need to click on it for it to play.
Did you check the file type - see video above

Oct 1, 2016 11:04 AM in response to Indyuserby Daffodildo,Hi. I hadn't realised it was video but it only plays for less than a second for me. The files are '.aif' so, alas, that is not it. Thanks.
