Q: iPhone 7 Plus - Camera focus issue

I have had my new iPhone 7+ for a limited amount of time and so far been happy with the product.

But I seem to have a problem with the camera on the phone. Most of the time the camera works as it should, but randomly the screen will go 100% blurry/out of focus and there is nothing I can do about it. I have tried to tap on the screen, press on the screen, changed camera modes, turned on/off hdr, live etc. but nothing happens, just a blurry screen and no "hunt for focus" and no red square to indicate focus area.

I am able to shut down the camera app, re-open it and it works as it should once more.

Anyone with similar problem?

Ive had this exact same problem a few times with my iPhone 7, though not recently, and I've read of lots of other people with the same problem.

I have this exact same problem also (iphone 7 32gb).

    Apple told me to

    • I went into the apple store
    • They told me to do a fresh ios install
    • If the problem occurs then go back and swap the phone out.

I did all those things, and the phone is still having problems (probably will swap out the phone some time later).

I Have had this happen more times than not. Approximately 7/10 times it will with the exact problem you have described. They only way to fix it is to either swipe through the different modes a number of times, or close the app completely and then reopen it.

i Have missed some great spur of the moment shot because of this. Very dissatisfied with the camera at this stage.

is there anywhere we can report this issue??   We all need to have this noticed!! I can't keep missing shots because the phone wants to "play-up".

My iPhone 7 also started doing this within 2 weeks of purchase.  This is disappointing...

Is everyone here having this issue?

I'm concerned because Apple can't seem to identify a problem with their diagnostics.

    yes thats the issue

i could fix it the last 3 times by switching  the camera app to video and then back to picture, just like is done in the video

I have just taken my iphone7 back to the Apple Store with this problem and they swapped it for a brand new iPhone. They conducted a diagnostic check first which showed my phone, camera and battery were in perfect health. They asked if i'd tried resetting the phone to which I replied that I had (even though I hadn't) by holding the Home button and volume down together, but the problem persisted.

I now have a brand new iphone7 which I'm sure will have the exact same problem. A major plus for me is that the screen on my iphone7 had a very small crack in it, which would have cost me £25 to repair under Apple Care, but now that problem is solved also .

I shall report back if there are any problems.

I have this issue too now. Bought the phone 2 days ago and now it's happening 2 hours ago.

Apple support asked me to do a factory reset, which i'll do later once i get home, but i think the problem will persist.

I just experienced this last night on my 7+. Brought up the camera, and the image was totally out of focus. It kept trying to focus, but it was just going from really bad, to horribly bad focus. The image was also very dark.

Shutting down the app and relaunching it didn't fix it for me. It also wouldn't let me switch between cameras by clicking the zoom indicator (it wouldn't toggle between 1x and 2x.)  Switching to video and back did work, although I swear I tried that as well the first time and it wouldn't let me switch. It could be that it needed both.

I do have it in a case, but the case stays well away from the cameras.

There seem to be lots of us 7 & 7+ owners with faulty cameras. Mine also started taking burst photos all by itself!!!

Take it back to Apple if you have a store near you, tell them you've tried numerous resets but the problem persists. They should give you a new phone.

Well after Apple swapped my iphone7 for a brand new one yesterday, my new phone still has the burst photo problem. As soon as I open the camera it starts taking a burst photo without me touching anything. It keeps taking this burst photo until I close the camera down. Sometimes my camera roll has single images that contain 50+ photos.
