Q: Watch not pairing with iphone

My watch had been successfully paired with my iphone 6plus since I got the watch on first release.

I have carried out all software updates required for both devices.

Suddenly, I notice that my phone is showing the "not connected" icon.

I did a hard re-boot on both devices to no avail.

Oddly, when I am at home and in the range of my wifi, it does work.

Any smart answers out there?

    Hi

Disconnections can be normal, when the watch loses the Bluetooth connection with the paired iPhone and no known Wi-Fi network is available.

In the absence of a Bluetooth connection, the watch attempts, as a fallback, to connect to a known Wi-Fi network (which may be how your watch is connecting to your iPhone at home).

Your devices should reconnect automatically via Bluetooth a short while after being brought close together again. If they do not, keep your iPhone and Apple Watch close by each other and follow these steps until they do:

    • Check that both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled on your iPhone:
      • It may help to toggle Bluetooth off and on again on your iPhone (Settings > Bluetooth).
    • Check that Airplane Mode is not enabled on your watch:
      • When viewing the time on your watch, swipe up on the watch face to open Control Centre.
      • If your watch is not connected and Airplane Mode is turned on, tap the button to turn it off.
      • It may otherwise help to toggle Airplane Mode on and off again.
    • Restart both devices, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first.

When your Apple Watch and iPhone are connected via Bluetooth, Control Centre on your watch will state Connected and the status icon will be a green phone symbol. If your watch has fallen back to a Wi-Fi connection, the status icon will instead be a green cloud.

For the best performance from your watch, keep both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi permanently enabled on your iPhone.

If they still do not reconnect via Bluetooth, next try unpairing and re-pairing your watch, choosing to Restore from backup when offered the option during set up:
