Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like you have Safari starting up at login. You said you have checked that it is not marked open at login. If it is listed at all in the login items in your user & groups profile it will launch at startup. The check box is to hide the application window from you at startup. I would recommend you read this article, it explains how to remove login items from the login items tab.
