I have safari 8 on Yosemite, which supports safari 10, yet I am unable to upgrade, why?

I reinstalled Yosemite twice today and I'm having this issue as well. I can only say that perhaps something is wrong with Apple's update servers. For the life of me I can't figure out why Safari 10 refuses to show up in the Mac App Store "Updates" tab. I have 10.10.5 with all other security updates installed, so I'm saddled with Safari 8.x...

Yosemite must be at version 10.10.5 to receive security and other updates containing Safari 10. If you are not at OS X 10.10.5, you can download the combo updater for it here. Then, look for the usual complement of updates in the Software Updates panel in the OS X App Store. Or ... you can simply download and install the macOS Sierra update.

As usual, back up your Mac before you install any operating system update.

Thanks for your answers guys. I tried updating to 10.10.5, although, I'm unclear how successful it was. I had to install it several times before it stopped reporting failures. And now in app store it lists it in available and installed (twice) updates. And ultimately, my safari is still at v8. I'd rather not have to install Sierra. I'm already low on disk space as it is (only 7/8 Giga left). Shouldn't this just work by itself?? Why is my Safari stuck at 8?
