IOS10 Mail FONT Size Issues

Resizing of fonts in email threads was always consistent with IOS9. Not with IOS10. In fact, the font is smaller and makes it difficult to read if you are visually challenged. This is not an improvement and I was very happy with IOS9. Why fix something that is not broke?????

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, BryanCBT.

If I’m understanding your post right, the size of the font of email messages in your Mail app is too small, and you're finding it difficult to read. I'm happy to help you with a solution for this so you can start enjoying Mail in iOS 10.

You can actually very easily change the font on your iPhone in Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size. If you need font sizes even bigger, you can do so in Accessibility settings. Here are the steps:

Make the font even bigger

  1. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger Text (or Larger Type in iOS 7).
  2. Turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes (or Larger Dynamic Type in iOS 7) for bigger font options.
  3. Drag the slider to select the font size you want.

Turn on other Accessibility settings

Go to Settings > General > Accessibility to make the text bold, increase the contrast, or invert the colors on your screen.

Change the font size on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
There are also some additional Accessibility features available for vision needs. You can view all of them here: iOS. A wide range of features for a wide range of needs.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Take care.

Thank you for responding to my concern. However, I have done this and I am aware of the Font size slider, etc. I made words larger. This has still not corrected the problem. Messages I received in my email are erratic in that certain ones are large and I can read however there still remains many emails with the smaller print. In addition, the trailers to the email [previous emails] still appear in a very small font. Unfortunately this problem persists.

Hello again, BryanCBT.

It's actually normal for some parts of your emails to not increase in size, even with the Larger Text Accessibility feature enabled. This is due to certain ways emails are formatted not working with Dynamic Type. Another option is to use the Zoom Accessibility feature when going through your emails. This can be enabled in Settings > General > Accessibility. For information on how to use this feature, take a look at Use Accessibility features in iOS , specifically this section:

Zoom

  • To turn on Zoom, use three fingers and double-tap the screen.
  • To increase the level of Zoom, use three fingers to double-tap and hold, then move your fingers up or down on the screen to increase or decrease magnification.

Take care.

I also have this problem on and off since iOS 10. Even mailing list messages that were always appropriately fitted to the mail screen in iOS 9 are shrunk down and appear like a little web page inside a browser within the mail window. Double tapping does not expand such messages to fit-to-screen as before. Turning the phone to landscape view doesn't always work with these reduced sizes. Sometimes, if I rotate from portrait to landscape, the sizing improves if I again rotate back to portrait, but not always. This problem is definitely related to iOS 10 and I only experience it in Mail. There is no change to font sizing in any other app.

I Have experienced this problem as well. Definitely an issue with iOS 10, or some feature/setting that came with it. For most emails (HTML or rich text) received, changes to the text size in settings has no effect at all. This was not an issue with ios9. in iOS 9, you could make text monster size in settings and it would instantly adjust text size in emails. Never had an issue. Now can't read 90% of emails. As usual, I'm regretting upgrading since email is mostly what I do on my phone.

Apple- please note that this issue is being widely reported on various sites. Here are two others as examples:

http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/253397/how-can-i-fix-the-tiny-type-in-i os-10-mail

http://www.applevis.com/forum/ios-ios-app-discussion/ios-10-dynamic-font-scaling -broken-mail

i also read an email marketing site where they lament at the significant email scaling issues they are having with ios10. I am guessing the issues are linked.

I should have mentioned in my earlier post that I did try a restart and it did appear to resolve the matter, but eventually I started receiving emails that presented the problem. Fewer of them at first, then more over the period of a week or more. In some cases, the message looked okay in portrait mode, but when I rotated my iPhone to landscape to gain some readability, the sizing issue presents itself again - the message does not fill the landscape layout. This solution only seems to have worked temporarily for me.

I'M having exactly the same issues as listed by all the people above, AND agree it wasn't a problem with IOS9. Each upgrade seems to make things a little bit more difficult for people with visual impairment.

PLEASE solve this, for me and other people with very bad eyesight a lot of what we see in the world is through our device.

I Have a iPhone 6 plus and an ipad.
