Q: Bogus account in 10.10.5 following web reinstall.

These bogus account are hugely concerning. They appear to be hidden on the system...What's up and how can I get a clean install? I have a 2010 Mac Mini, no DVD/CD drive...

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

    what accounts are you talking about?

    did you get a web install from somewhere other than Apple?

    did you use internet recovery or an original unchanged download from the App Store?

    or something else?

    What are the names of these accounts & where exactly are you seeing them?

    Hi Sorry I thought I had typed additional information;

    I did internet recovery following the prompts.

    There are too many to list but have names like;

    vomiter

    toprail

    mesodermic

    etc...

    I used dscl . -list /Users

    to get a command line view and tried to remove using

    dscl . -delete /Users/to[rail for example. No luck

    Also tried using the accounts GUI / directory "-" no luck either.

    If I try to locate the user directories, they appear to be hidden.

    Very disturbing.

    Hold Option or alt key when selecting Find to Find All.

    What all 3rd party extentions are you running?

    EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

    BDAqua,

    Thanks for the links and tips. AT the moment not running any 3rd party extensions.

    I've had the mini since 2012 and I use it for Netflix (attached to TV) and mostly for music streaming FLAC files via LMS server and PureDisk. I use Firefox as the browser and generally keep the os current.

    I'm nervous about reconnecting it to the internet with all those bogus accounts sitting there but will give your suggestions a try.

    Regards,
