Q: Home button issues

HHow can you use the screen passcode without using the home button or having the control center icon. Trying to get the screen back like before the update to iOS 10. With just the pin code screen. Thanks if anyone can help

You can't. The new design requires that you press the Home button.

Yes, you can change the behavior to resting a finger on the screen. Settings > General > Accessibility. It's not swiping but it's close.

Thanks for the clarification Peggy.

I think that for the OP, this wouldn't work since they have an iPod Touch ID 5th gen listed in their hardware profile.
