The Time Capsule must connect to the internet via ethernet or wireless to another Apple router. You cannot wirelessly connect the TC to a wireless modem router.. because Apple don't make them.

The methods to connect therefore are as follows.

    1. Use ethernet. This is the best by far.

The ethernet could be directly to a desktop machine if it uses wireless for internet.. but then the TC is not available to the network. Much better to provide internet via the TC though.

    2. Use EOP (powerline adapters) in place of ethernet. They don't always work but can be a good solution when they do.

    3. You need to purchase a wireless bridge. Airport Express is the only model apple designed with this added functionality. You place it near the TC .. the Express connects via wireless and uses ethernet to connect the TC to the network.. great for when you visit a hotel.. a really poor and slow way to connect internet via the TC for your own home.

It is not required to use an Express.. any brand wireless bridge would work.
