Q: Mac Pro (early 2008) blinking(1 /sec.) status LED; wont boot.

Mac Pro (early 2008) OS X, 10.11.6. tried waking from sleep and got blinking(2 per sec.) status LED; no other response. Forced quit. Wont boot. Just blinking status LED on front panel and fan sound. no bong. Tried pulling AC to reset SMC:

no change.

    2 per second means there's something wrong with the RAM, or not enough of it is working to get through startup. Pull and reseat each stick -- one or more might be defective.

    Thanks for responding. I Pulled all the RAM (8 x 2GB, third party- sold as Apple compliant matched pairs) and replaced it with the original Apple-supplied (2 x 1GB) RAM. The Mac Pro booted normally. I started repopulating the 2 memory boards with the removed RAM DIMMs by pairs, booting after each addition, until the blinking light returned and the Mac wouldn't start. Removed last added pair and normal boot returned. Replaced that pair with another: normal boot.

    Definitely bad RAM.
