Q: my mic and headphones do not work out of the blue

one day about a month ago my mic and head phone stopped working. This was just before 10.0 . Now I see that 10.0.02 says it would fix it and now it's still not working. Does anyone else have this problem? It's a A1048 iPad. maybe apples way of forcing me to update this old unit.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Agodave123.

I see you're having some issues using headphones with your iPad, as well as problems with the mic. I know it's never a fun experience when a device doesn't work as you expected, so I’m happy to help you get to the bottom of this.

If you're having problems with the built-in mic on your iPad, and not the mic on your headphones mic, I recommend following the troubleshooting steps in Get help with the microphones on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch If the issue is with the mic on your headphones, take a look at the steps in If your headphones don‘t work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, specifically this section:

    If your microphone doesn't work

    1. Make sure that your headphones have a built-in microphone.
    2. Check your microphone for blockage, like debris, lint, or plastic packaging.
    3. To see if you need a replacement, try a second pair of headphones. If the second pair works, contact the manufacturer of the initial pair and ask if you need a replacement. If the second pair doesn't work, contact Apple Support.

In addition to that section, follow the other steps that relate to your issue, if you haven't  already. Both of those support articles should give you all of the necessary steps to troubleshoot the issues you're experiencing, as well tell you what to do if the issue persists after troubleshooting has been completed.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Take care.
