Q: make ringtones

Is there any way to use iTunes 12.5.1.21 to make ringtones for my iPhone 5c?  I never had a problem until i downloaded the newest iTunes version a few months ago.  Huge mistake.

    Hi,

This link provides how-to for iTunes 10 but it is still good. http://www.simonblog.com/2010/09/06/how-to-create-ringtone-for-iphone-on-itunes- 10/

There is also a free app called Ringtone Maker you can get from the iTunes store that you can put on your phone.

It doesn't work after Step 8, because I am not able to Remove the m4r tune and Keep the File.

My old - and working - process used to be:

    Select song from Library.

In Edit go to Get Info, fill in start and stop time, and check the boxes. (It used to be as long as 40 seconds.)

In File go to Create New Version then Create AAC

The short version then appeared in the Library list.

In File go to Show in Finder, change m4a to m4r.  Select Use m4r.

Highlight the short version in the Library.  Delete the song, but keep the file.

Go back to m4r and double click.

The short version then appeared in the Tones list on the iPhone.

I think Apple deliberately altered iTunes 12.5.1.21 so it is IMPOSSIBLE to make ringtones.

    Hi,

It's not impossible. I just created one as a test, using the method suggested in the link.

I am using Sierra and iTunes 12.5 and here are my steps.

Select song, Get info/ Options/ media type Music/ set 30 seconds or less time, check Start and Finish boxes, click OK.  (This leaves your original song with only 30 seconds playing so later you have to go back and uncheck those boxes.)

Go to iTunes / File / Convert / Create AAC version. Option- or right-click on this and choose show in Finder.

Change file extension to .m4r. Back to iTunes and delete AAC version you created, choose Keep File.

Back in Finder double click on the .m4r file and then sync your device.

That worked for me and it seems the same as what you used to do.

It doesn't work after Step 8, because I am not able to Remove the m4r tune and Keep the File.

Could you give more details about what happens or what messages you get when you try that.

I think Apple deliberately altered iTunes 12.5.1.21 so it is IMPOSSIBLE to make ringtones.

    Do you honestly believe that?

Even if Apple removed that feature there's plenty of other ways to make them doing the same process.  E.g., Make Ringable v1.1 - http://dougscripts.com/475 - Applescript to make a ringtone
