Q: iPhone back up sizes different

Hey everyone. I restored my iPhone 7 plus from a back up from my old iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 plus' backup is 26 GB. Overnight my iPhone 7 had created a back up of its own but is only 6 GB. If the phones have the same data on them (and I checked), how is there a 20 GB difference?

Thanks!

happy weekend!

Not everything is included in a backup. If something is synced to iCloud through some other means, then it will not be included in the backup. For instance, if you don't have iCloud Photo Library enabled on the 6 Plus, then photos are included the backup. If you do have iCloud Photo Library enabled on your 7 Plus, then they will not be included in the backup. Information about what is and isn't included in backups can be found here: About backups for iOS devices - Apple Support. You may want to look through this and review your settings on both devices to see if you can find the reason.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately I had already wiped and restored the phone for a family member so I am unable to cross reference iCloud settings. iCloud Photo Library is enabled on my iPhone 7 Plus. I believe this is what happened. My photos have been stored under iCloud Photo Library and not the back up file itself; which is why the file sizes are vastly different.

    Much appreciated!
