Q: Buy the 2015 5k iMac now or wait for the 2016?

I purchased a 21.5" late 2013 model few months before the 4k 21.5" came out and have been regretting the decision ever since. Today it finally broke and its not worth investing in a new lcd screen and glass. So now I am considering buying the 2015 5k 27" iMac with highest specs but have read that its possible a 2016 version will come out this month of October. Should I wait for the new version?

It's all speculation, date of unveil, date of delivery, specs ...

The 5k iMac, esp a maxed out 'beast' with the 4GB GPU <sigh>, is a superb machine,

Will you notice in real-life a difference with a future Mac? Probably.

Do you need that difference in real life? Only you know (working in a Newsroom? )

Rule #1 in purchasing hardware: the 'better one' is avail the moment you purchase a device

Rule #2 in purchasing hardware: buy when you need.

… when you don't need a Mac the. next 4-12 weeks - wait.

Purchase after the October announcement.  If no new iMac announced in October, we won't see one until later next year.  Any time you purchase a new computer (any make or model), be assured some newer model will be announced in 8 months.  After that new one is released, a newer one is close behind that.  Don't try to beat it, just be reasonable.  Plan on purchasing whatever the latest is, after the Oct announcement.

How much iMac do you really need? Honestly. do you have a used Mac outlet in your area? look seriously. several used 2015 iMacs will be available within weeks of any announcements from Apple.
