Q: System Crashing and Rebooting

Mid 2014 i7 MacBook Pro i7 with 16 GB Intel Iris Pro and Nvidia GT 750M.  Sierra and previously ElCap.  Getting some real bad crashes with FCPX 10.2.3.  Anytime I try to do a Stabilization on a clip the system just blows up, crashes and reboots.  As expected, you would hear the fans crank putting pressure on the GPU/CPU which is not unusual when you throw effects or corrections at it.  I removed all FCPX App/and system components, reinstalled and started a whole new library and database. Everything is local on the SSD. Log files seem to be pointing to a BUG or Leak.  Never had problems with FCPX performing these tasks. No 3rd party plug-ins. Video source are iPhone 6s files, 4K.

Final Cut Pro X, macOS Sierra (10.12)

4K with less than 1 GB VRAM. That can be a problem. When you say crashes and reboots do you mean a kernel panic? That often indicates a hardware problem.

VRAM for the IRIS is 1536MB, then add on the Nvidia at 2048MB so thats not an issue and hasn't been in the past.  I've had this system for a while and have done a lot of video on it.  No kernel panic, just a freeze and reboot.  Maybe hardware, fans are cranking so if there's too much heat leaning on a sensor causing it to shut down, I'm thinking.

    just a freeze and reboot

The whole system is freezing and your have to force it to reboot? The application is freezing and you force quit it? And then reboot?

Try trashing prefs after it crashes, but it does sound like hardware.

It freezes, then reboots on it's own.  I have trashed the Prefs and zapped the pram, reset the SMC as a go full circle with things.  Time for a visit to the store and let AppleCare pay for itself.
