Q: iPhone SE to Macbook to iCloud

I just purchased an iPhone SE this June. I also purchased a new Macbook Pro this September. What I am trying to do is sync all so that my contacts on the SE and Macbook and iCloud have the same information. My SE has 94 contacts. My Macbook shows 3 and my iCloud shows 2 contacts. No matter what I do I cannot get my iPhone SE to sync with both Macbook and iCloud. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The Macbook is running version 10.11.6.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Each device needs to be signed in to iCloud using the same Apple ID, and contacts needs to be enabled in iCloud settings for each.

You're actually getting each device to sync with your account on iCloud.com, not directly to each other.

Try Settings/iCloud and slide off syncing. Wait a few minutes and then resync.

Have you tried signing out of iCloud and then sign back in?

Yes, that is what I am shooting for. The 94 contacts I have on my iPhone SE are not showing up on my Macbook or iCloud. I have tried turning everything off then on again, performed backups and deleted old one. The contacts on my phone remain and still nothing new in iCloud or on the Macbook.

Yes, I have un-synced, logged out, turned back on... everything, a number of times, nothing has changed.

OK.. so this proves the phone is not syncing with iCloud.

At this point, there is nothing to troubleshoot on the Macbook.

To be clear, you are checking the web portal for the iCloud account that matches the Apple ID of your phone correct?

On your phone you have Settings > iCloud signed in as joe.smith@icoud.com and you sign in to iCloud.com as joe.smith@icloud.com

Once you have this sync working, the Macbook may not be an issue. What iOS version is the phone?

I am signed in using my apple ID which is a gmail.com address and password. I have not seen anything that has a sign in ending in icloud.com.

Also, when I manually input my contacts in the the Macbook contacts it immediately uploads to the cloud. However, all the contacts on the phone stay on the phone. So, I assume if I can get my phone to sync with my Macbook then it will sync to the cloud? But that does not solve the problem of the phone syncing to the cloud.

Also, when I perform a backup from my phone, the backup shows up on the cloud but the contacts are still not showing.

I used iCloud.com as an example of an email address/Apple ID.

Ok.. it sure sounds like your SE is not using the same Apple ID as you are on your Mac and are using to check on iCloud.com. Or it needs to be restored to resolve a software glitch.

The cloud is in the middle of all of this.

It's phone to cloud. Macbook to cloud. There is no phone to Macbook.

I'll ask again... what iOS version is on the SE? I'll assume at least 9. something if you bough it in June. Have you updated it?

iOS version on the SE is 10.0.2 and yes it was recently updated in September when the most recent update was pushed.

Contact iCloud Support. You may have to try twice.
