Q: Bluetooth not connecting on iOS 10 and OS sierra

I just bought a iphone 7, apple watch 2 and I updated my computer to sierra yesterday.

I wanted to do the auto unlock with my watch, but my phone is not connecting to the Mac with bluetooth. it wants to connect and the phone appears in the bluetooth settings, it says on my phone to pair if the numbers are the same and then it "fails to connect". so im lost and I can't use my watch.

I have reset my watch (by unpairing), iphone (by restting all settings) and turned restarted my computer.

it seems like the "it just works era" for apple is over.

Mac OS X (10.6.8)

    Barry,

Somewhere between getting my new iPhone 7 and updating my MacBook to Sierra, the Messages coming and going through my iPhone stopped being sent to my Mac. Then when I got my Apple Watch, I tried to use it to unlock my Mac, but my Mac gave me an error stating it could not communicate with my Watch. I knew Continuity played an important role in both the message sync'ing and the Mac unlocking so I checked out the requirements for Continuity. The requirements included Bluetooth so I made the (incorrect) assumption that my Mac needed to be paired with my iPhone and Watch. Based on your input, I know I was wrong about pairing, but I still have the problems with the Messages not sync'ing between my iPhone and my Mac and the fact that my Mac says it can't communicate with my Watch.

    Thank you for your help.
