Oct 1, 2016 1:22 PM in response to lesfromhuntsvilleby elcpu,★HelpfulOn the phone try holding down these buttons at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears: the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button. On the Mac, just reboot it and then try again.

Oct 1, 2016 1:27 PM in response to lesfromhuntsvilleby elcpu,Are you using the latest iTunes, 12.5.1?
Do you have another iOS device that still works with the Mac? If so that would eliminate the Mac as the issue.
If the Mac is ok, I would do a system restore but only after eliminating the Mac as a possibility.
System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data if possible. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup. Here are the steps for a Restore:

Oct 1, 2016 1:42 PM in response to elcpuby lesfromhuntsville,I can't restore the iphone using itunes because itunes is not recognizing my phone: "iTunes could not connect tothe iphone because an invalid response was received from the device." That is part of the problem, since the last update on the phone, to 10.0.2, iphoto and itunes no longer can connect to my phone

Oct 1, 2016 1:49 PM in response to elcpuby Nancy Mullin,I, too, have this problem and I can't get iTunes 12.5.1. It says my version, 12.2.25 is current. I'm running OS 10.7.5 and that, too, is as far as my Mac Pro will go. Am I going to have to buy a new Mac Pro just to be able to sync my phone? This is getting nuts! Safari won't update for my Mac either. aarrgghh!!!

Oct 1, 2016 1:53 PM in response to lesfromhuntsvilleby elcpu,Try Recovery Mode:
Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes.
While your device is connected, force restart it: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, and don't release when you see the Apple logo.
On the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume down button instead.
Keep holding until you see the recovery mode screen and wait for it to restore.
You may have to do the above more than once as recovery mode is difficult to get into.
Restore as New first and test it. Then restore from backup if desired. If the backup is corrupted it will likely bring back the issue.

If the above steps do not help, you may have to take it to an Apple store for testing.

Oct 1, 2016 2:01 PM in response to Nancy Mullinby elcpu,★HelpfulSorry but yes, you need OS 10.8.6 I believe to update to Sierra and thus 12.5.1 As Macs get old, some software is no longer supported.

Oct 2, 2016 2:34 PM in response to lesfromhuntsvilleby oliocat,I have the same problem since I updated IOS on 10.02.2016. My mac is 10.7.5 - iTunes 12.2.2.25 - Iphone 5se latest update as of 10.01.16
"iTunes could not connect to the iPhone “kaori’s iPhone” because an invalid response was received from the device."
My theory is Apple screwed up again. ITunes gives me this error message before my Iphone can ask me to trust. Why suddenly my iPhone does not trust my Mac anymore is probably the screw up in the update. When I click trust. iTunes does not recognize the response.
I cannot upload pics for my job until apple fixes it

Oct 2, 2016 2:51 PM in response to oliocatby Nancy Mullin,What a PITA! I don't expect Apple will "fix" this. Fortunately for me, I also have a PC running windows 7 and the phone will sync with it. I mostly only use it for homemade ringtones. However, you can't sync with 2 different iTunes libraries so whatever was on from the Mac is erased in order to put stuff from the pc. Another PITA! I don't plan on buying a new Mac Pro. ggrrrrr!
