Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Sorry to hear that you are having these issues with your Contacts after a recent update. The easiest way to recover your contacts would be if you were syncing them with iCloud. If so, you can verify that you have access to them in iCloud Contacts, as outlined in the following article:

If they're there, make sure your iPhone is set up correctly:Make sure that you're signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on all your devices and check your settings.
- On your iPhone, tap Settings > iCloud. Check your Apple ID and make sure that you turn on what you want to update (Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders).
