How do I use Home App to schedule lights?

I want my porch and patio fixture lights to go on & off at designated times. I know I can get WiFi connected bulbs. Will the Home App control the times or do I have to buy some sort of hub? Confusing.

Thank you I have but this reenforces my point. To control a bulb I have to buy a $70 bridge, plug it in, download an app and then it will do a timer schedule. (So in this scenario the new Apple Home app literally does nothing?) I just want to control one bulb in one outdoor socket ON A TIMER. Now I just assume more stuff is coming to make Apple Home do something other than direct me to equipment from manufacturers who got into this niche earlier. Catch Up Apple.

If you have an Apple TV or an iPad that stays at home, you can set it up to handle the automation.

You might also look at the products by iDevice. They work with HomeKit but don't require a hub. I have one outlet switch from them and it works just fine. The app will allow you to set up a schedule even if you don't have automation set up through your ATV/iPad.
