Q: Use Airport Express to Extend Wireless Network and Hardwire Ethernet Lan?

I have multiple Airport Extremes and Express' not to metion Apple TVs.  I was looking to run ethernet to my detached Garage where I have an Apple Express Box and another Apple TV.  Can I hardwire my Apple Express to my WAN, Extend the Network Wirelessly and hardwire my Apple TV Box to that same Airport Express at the same time using the Lan port?  I heard that older versions of the express made this possible... which versions?  While I just bought a new one, I do have an older version as well and can easily swap them to suit my need.

Thanks!

Here, I assume that you mean to say that you plan to connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the AirPort Express, correct?

    Extend the Network Wirelessly

The network will not be extended wirelessly if you use Ethernet to connect to the AirPort Express. Instead, the network will be extended using Ethernet, and the AirPort Express will create a wireless signal for devices to connect in that area.

and hardwire my Apple TV Box to that same Airport Express at the same time using the Lan port?

Yes. If you need more Ethernet connections, you can connect an Ethernet switch to the LAN <--> port on the AirPort Express.  Switches come in 5-port, 8-port, 16-port, etc versions.

I heard that older versions of the express made this possible

This would not be possible with older one-port versions of the AirPort Express......since the Ethernet cable being run to the garage would connect to the only port on the Express.

However, if you first connected the Ethernet cable running to the garage to an Ethernet switch, then you could connect an older one-port version of the Express to the Ethernet switch and set it up to create a wireless signal.
