I cannot restore backup file

I have purchased iphone 7 and I traded my old phone in for credits. (which means that I have reset my old device)

And I got home and trying to set up new iphone 7 with the backup file that I have restored before I got to the store, but I cannot see backup file. I am panicking since there are lots of valuable information on the backup file.

So, I thought that it might happen because the software version of my old iphone was 9.3.1, but the iphone 7 is 10.0.1. I am pretty sure that I have checked the backup process was completed. Please, teach me through how to solve the problem.

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 10.0.1

Not sure why you've chosen to post in the Using iPad forum, but the restoring process for phones is the same.

If you have a backup of the old phone on your computer's iTunes (the backup was to your computer, not to the cloud ?) it should show if the new phone is on a higher iOS version, it should only be the opposite (backup from a higher iOS device) that causes problems. Does the backup show on the Devices tab in your computer's iTunes preferences (Edit > Preferences on a PC ; iTunes > Preferences on a Mac) ?

You could also manually check the folder/directory on the computer to see what backups are on the computer, but what shows there should tie up with the Devices tab in Preferences

Mac:~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.

Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 and 10 :\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.

Windows XP:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, then choose Run. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then click OK.

But it sounds like there isn't a backup
