Q: I need help changing from POP to IMAP (IOS)

Changing from POP to IMAP seems to be an easy task, but I'm in trouble here: I used to have a POP email account on my Iphone. When I decided to change protocol to IMAP, first thing I did was to delete my old POP account. From there, I started to create my new IMAP account. But, to my surprise, after filling the fields at first screen (email ID, password, Account description) and typing "NEXT", IOS - in instead of the regular procedure - entered a "searching" operation (as if it knew that email id had an account there). Then, if found the former deleted pop account, and didn't present me the choice as to create my IMAP account.

I tried to start from the beginning several times, turned off the iPhone, tried a wrong password, all I could imagine to do. But the behavior was always the same: "searching" and finding the deleted POP account. The result: I can't create a new IMAP account for the same email ID!!

Someone knows an workaround? I have searched all the net for that answer... Thanks in advance!

    Your settings and set up for an IMAP account will be specific to the email provider. They are not all the same and not every email provider allows IMAP.

    You can use this online tool to get most of the settings you will need.

    >>> https://www.apple.com/support/mail-settings-lookup/  <<<

    Or you can use the various mail templates within iOS. The major email providers are there.

    Thanks for your answer.

    But the problem was another one. As I had the POP account already created, even after deleted, some "intelligent" feature of IOS searched for the email id of a new account, and if it was once created, the IOS recreate it with the same former config (POP for instance).

    After searching everywhere for a solution, I found: you should start the new account with the wrong email id. And then, the IOS will permit you choose between POP and IMAP. You then correct the email id, and go on with the creation procedure.

    That's it.

    PS email id = email address (name@server.com)
