Q: Need instructions/advice for no audio problem Win8.1 pro on mid 2012 MBP

Thank you for taking your time in looking into my question.

My Machine: Mid 2012 non retina Macbook Pro

What I wanted: To install win 8.1 pro 64bit on a second SSD completely (No Partition)/replacing the optical drive

My Problem: Everything works great, but no audio. Drivers seem to be the issue:

Capture.PNGCapture.PNG
How I installed windows:

1. I put the clean ssd in main bay + optical drive with win 8.1 disk

2. Windows disk booted and Installed windows 8.1 64 bit without errors

3. Installed bootcamp support drivers

4. returned the Mac ssd back to the main bay and put the windows ssd in caddy then in optical bay

5. Start up consists of holding alt and choosing between mac os, recovery, and efi boot(which contains windows)

What I have tried(all of the following have been ineffective):

1. Reinstalling/repairing bootcamp support drivers from different sources (from the download on apple website and from bootcamp assistant application)

2. Reinstalling realtek drivers

3. Installing intel hd 4000 graphic drivers(found a source that said this would do the trick, it didn't)

4. Uninstalling High Definition Audio controller (it always seems to come back)

5. manually downloading and installing cirrus drivers from http://www.stuffedcow.net/files/CS4207_WinVista_Win7_32-64-bit_6-6001-1-30.zip

I get the following error:

Capture.PNG

6. Placing the windows ssd in the main bay

7. troubleshooting sound (was 99% sure this wasn't going to work)

8. Throwing my hands up in utter despair and crying uncontrollably afterwards (was probably the most effective out of the 8)

What I need clarification on:

I have found found some sources say that installing windows via EFI mode causes no audio, however I am unsure if the way I installed it is considered efi mode as I never was given an option for efi mode. However when I start up and hold option the name of the windows disk is named "EFI BOOT." Is the way I installed windows considered efi mode?

What I need instructions on:

Some sources say I need to install windows in hybrid MBR mode however I am not sure how I would install windows any differently that the way I did it above. How do I go about installing not in efi boot mode if I want to devote the entire ssd to windows/what would I do any differently that the steps I listed up there?

Thank you so much once again for your time and help!

The Windows must be in the main bay and must stay in the main bay after installation. You need to either use BC Assistant and create a USB Installer which will also create a legacy BIOS/MBR W8.1 (default for your specific model) or if you choose to do it manually, make sure you choose the Windows icon from the Installation media, not EFI Boot.

If you just boot from the W8.1 DVD, the default is EFI Boot. BC Assistant does quite a bit of work for you, so avoiding it is not such a good idea.

Are you able to get the Audio to work properly? I have a 13-in 2012 MBP and the Audio works without any issues. In my case, this is what the Device Manager shows

Yes, reinstalling it and manually selecting "windows" cd from option start up has fixed the issue. Thanks!

    Hi Loner,

Thank you for all of your help. Sorry to bother you again but recently just this morning, I woke up my windows from sleep mode and a couple seconds into use the system crashes into the same screen as the following: 96c4d8174a1c8df2c8739189fb44781ao.jpg

from then on, starting up while pressing alt/option has been exhibiting inconsistent behavior locating/identifying the windows bootcamp drive.

There are usually 4 things that occur when I try to start up with alt/option:
    1. The windows drive option just doesn't show up (occurs most of the time)

    2. The windows drive appears and then you see a poof and it disapears
    3. The windows drive appears, and upon entering gives me: "a disk read error has occurred press ctr alt del to restart"

    4. the windows drive appears and functions just fine, however crashes in the the same blue screen as before occasionally

I have tried repair the disk with disk utility with no avail.
The way the drive shows up in utility is inconsistent as well each time I restart my computer.
The ssd itself always shows up but the drives inside seem to be vary from time to time:

    1. On occasion the drive is normal with the system reserved drive and Bootcamp drive showing up as normal black letters
    2. Sometimes, system reserved is found but the Bootcamp drive has issues being identified and is now named disks1with the name greyed out. Repairing this disk results in failure and the name being restored to Bootcamp but with letters still grayed out:

    3. Both reserved and bootcamp aren't identified and upon startup of macintosh I receive a message that the disk isnt formatted to the way that mac can read it and am prompted to initialize the disk. On inspection of disk utilities both are renamed to disks1 and disks2 (something along those lines) and the names are both grayed out.

It this a hardware problem or software problem? Would my only option at this point be to reinstall windows 8.1 once more? (side question: is there a way to connect the internal super drive to the computer externally so that I don't have to take apart my computer each time I want to use it for installation and burning?)

Thanks so much for your help and time once again!

Is your Windows SSD in the main disk bay?

Can you run Apple Hardware Test - Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support ? Please run the longer test. It may not report any errors, so you may have to run it more than once. It is long and tedious process, but please be patient.

Ran the extended test, only error found was a 4bat error. Which when googled means some error with the battery most likely stemming from the fact that my battery is from a 3rd party from amazon. Not sure if this is the cause of the windows error as my mac side has been running smoothly since the day I put the battery in. 14536536_10210331314789001_953306258_o.jpg
